DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT


Amherst Schools is a public school district with approximately 390 students in grades PK-12. Amherst is a small town located approximately 15 miles northwest of Kearney on Highway 40. Our student body includes the Amherst and Riverdale communities plus students who option into our school from surrounding communities. Amherst offers a wide variety of academic classes including college classes through Central Community College and University of Nebraska at Kearney via distance learning. Amherst Schools is a member of the Nebraska School Activities Association and is classified as a C-2 school in most activities. Our extra-curricular activities are strongly supported by the community. Activities include: football, volleyball, cross country, g/b basketball, wrestling, b/g track, band, choir, speech, and drama. Other activities the district sponsors include: cheerleading, dance team, National Honor Society, Youth Congress, Student Council, FFA, FBLA, and Academic quiz bowl.
