Maxwell Public School District 56-0007 is an educational system designed to serve the entire educational community regardless of race, color, creed, locale of origin or sex. The system is committed to providing all students from kindergarten through the twelfth grade all possible educational opportunities. Maxwell, Nebraska is a rural community located in the fertile Platte River Valley along Highway 30, the Union Pacific Railroad, and Interstate 80. Ranching and farming form the agricultural backbone of the area fifteen miles east of North Platte, Nebraska. Maxwell is the home of Fort McPherson National Cemetery and "Mac's Well," a stop off point along the Oregon Trail, named after John "Mac" McCullough by U.S. soldiers around 1865. Maxwell Public School, a K-12 facility, is the heart of the community. District 56-0007, as a Class III School with over one thousand inhabitants, encompasses an area of 304.9 square miles serving 280 students.
