DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT
The South Central Nebraska Unified School District #5 just completed its seventeenth year of operation as a unified school. It includes preschool through 5th grade facilities at Lawrence, 6-12 at Nelson, preschool through 5th grade at Sandy Creek, 6-8 at Clay Center, and 9-12 at Sandy Creek. In 2013-2014, the district embarked on a 1:1 technology initiative. All K-2 students have an iPad II, while 3-12 students use MacBook Airs. The 1:1 initiative includes Schoology as a learning management system. In 2015-16, the district began a Career Pathway program in business, medical, agriculture, architecture, and computer graphics. The district's Career Pathway program became the Nebraska Center for Advanced Professional Studies in 2016 and is adding career strands in engineering, advanced manufacturing, biosciences, education, and global business.
