Cross County Community School District #72-0015 is a consolidated Class III school district made up of the former Stromsburg Public Schools and Benedict Public Schools. The district contains 177.1 square miles with a valuation of $860,499,908.00. The general fund property tax levy is .516496 cents. The enrollment of the district is 410 students, PK-12. Cross County has a six-member board of education, employs 38.75 FTE teaching staff and 3.0 FTE administrative staff. The district provides PreK-5 elementary , 6-8 middle school and 9-12 high school at a newer facility that was opened in the fall of 2008. The Cross County Community School building is located at the intersection of Highways 81 and 66 in Polk County.
