DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT


The Shelby-Rising City Public Schools is a rural, Class III District, with buildings located in Shelby and Rising City, Nebraska. The Shelby and Rising City Districts consolidated prior to the 2011-2012 school year. Shelby is a town of 714, located in eastern Polk County. Rising City is a town of 396, located in western Butler County. The district is located 20 miles south of Columbus and 65 miles northeast of Lincoln, along U.S. Highway 92. The major industry is agriculture. The district has a student population of 390 students in grades preK-12. Grades preK-5 and 9-12 are located in Shelby. Grades 6-8 are located in Rising City. The district is classified as a C2 school by the Nebraska School Activities Association. Shelby-Rising City Public Schools' mission is to provide quality through innovation, integrity, accountability, and service. In the fall of 2017 all students (PK-12) will attend the expanded and renovated Shelby school site.
