DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING

Hastings Middle School serves 810 students in grades six, seven, and eight and uses the philosophy of middle level education. Each student has a team of teachers that assures the subject area rigor of a high school program and the relational connectivity of an elementary program. Development of the whole child is also a strong focus with emphasis on character development and positive relationships. As part of innovating programming, the Middle School received a state grant that was implemented in 2016-17 aimed at increasing student participation in Skilled and Technical Science areas. Hastings Middle School continued to adapt to the changes that come with a grade 6-8 configuration and was named a MetLife/NASSP National Breakthrough School in 2013 and 2017. Hastings Middle School has been annually recognized as a National Model PLC School by All Things PLC since 2013-14. In 2015 and 2016, Hastings Middle School was also recognized as a National Showcase School.
