DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING

Founded in 1887, Longfellow Elementary is Hastings' oldest school. Located in the heart of Hastings, Longfellow enrolls approximately 320 students in grades K-5. Focused upon instilling the virtues of respect, responsibility, compassion, and integrity in every student, Longfellow's character education program has been recognized nationally in 2001 and 2019. As a school-wide Title I building, staff members collaborate in Professional Learning Communities with the goal of improving student learning. Stakeholders collaborate to create an environment in which students can acquire the knowledge, skills, and behaviors essential to be successful individuals and responsible citizens. Longfellow Elementary has been recognized as a National Model Professional Learning Community School by All Things PLC. The Hastings community passed a bond to renovate the 92-year-old building and Longfellow students and staff will begin the 2020-2021 school year in a fully-renovated, state of the art school.
