DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Glenwood Elementary is north of Kearney, west of the intersection of Highways 10 and 40. The school dates from 1873, when the district was the 14th district in Buffalo County. In 1915, the school was made a demonstration school of the Department of Rural Education at the Kearney State Normal School. The second school building, the Glenwood Community House, was erected in 1918. In addition to being a school, it was the meeting place for religious services, patriotic events, political rallies, and the Glenwood Grange. A wood frame building was built to the south of the main building in 1973. A trailer was moved to this same site in 1976. The present Glenwood School was open for attendance in August of 1980. Glenwood became a part of Kearney Public Schools in 1989. It is a single track school.
