DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING


South High Magnet School is the Information Technology, Visual/Performing Arts and Dual Language magnet for the Omaha Public Schools. Students may declare a major in a magnet focus area, providing a guided course of in-depth study and research. The curriculum includes 4-year programs in piano and dance; music technology in an in-house professional recording studio; video gaming and digital art; virtual reality and computer graphics; guitar; filmmaking; robotics and computer programming and design; 2-D and 3-D visual arts programs; metalsmithing; and private lessons for music students. Dual Language students fulfill their core requirements in classes taught in English and Spanish, promoting a true bilingual education. Partnerships with the Omaha Community Playhouse and Omaha Symphony allow students to participate in workshops and master classes with professional artists. The latest technology is infused throughout the building, with more than 20 computer labs and iPad and laptop carts.
