DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Lewis and Clark Middle School, at 6901 Burt Street, opened in the fall of 1960. A tornado struck the school on May 6, 1975, and the building was totally renovated before reopening for students. Lewis and Clark provides a diverse student population with rigorous instruction following the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) framework. Each child receives instruction based on their learner profile, the IB MYP Areas of Interaction, and Approaches to Learning. Students are assigned to interdisciplinary teams for instruction in Language & Literature, Language Acquisition: French or Spanish, Individuals & Societies, Science, Mathematics, and Design. Programs for gifted, ELL, and special education students are offered in various curriculum areas. The Learning Community Focus Program: Leadership through Technology and Communication, is offered with an extended day and extended school year. Lewis and Clark Middle has a long standing “Tradition of Excellence”.
