DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Gomez Heritage Elementary, which opened on August 25, 2004, is a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade school located in the southeast area of the Omaha Public Schools District. The school was built on a bluff that the community called Goat Mountain. Gomez Heritage was named in honor of Edward “Babe” Gomez, a Korean War hero from this South Omaha community and Heritage to honor the many ethnic groups that settled this neighborhood. The school offers a Spanish Dual Language program in grades kindergarten through 5th grade and is part of the “International Spanish Academies." There are 38 classrooms, two computer labs, a media center, a Family Room, a multi-purpose room/cafeteria, a gymnasium, and two award-winning Outdoor Classrooms. Eight portable classrooms were added to support the growing student population in previous years.
