DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Jefferson Elementary School is located at 4065 Vinton Street in Omaha. Jefferson opened in 1924 and over the years has undergone many physical renovations and updates. Jefferson serves K-6 students from the south central part of Omaha. Over the years the student population has become richly diverse. The programs offered at Jefferson serve the needs of all children including English as a second language, special education, orthopedically impaired and speech/language therapy. The staff regularly attends professional development opportunities to improve their instruction practices. In January of 2007, Jefferson Elementary received the Nebraska Title I Distinguished School Award. The school’s success is a direct result of the contributions from staff and students as well as the high level of involvement and support from Jefferson parents and community.
