DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING

Wakonda School is located at 4845 Curtis Avenue. Wakonda gets its name from a Native American word which refers to the “Great Spirit” who was the provider of all things needed for a happy life, including land, rain, and sunlight. Currently, Wakonda serves approximately 320 students from pre-kindergarten through the sixth grade. Wakonda offers small class sizes. With the emphasis on reading skills, expressive writing and application of the scientific process, the Wakonda staff, students, and community focus their efforts to have all students be successful in these areas. The teaching staff also focuses on character education. By emphasizing academic skills and personal development, Wakonda students will be better prepared to meet the demands of tomorrow.
