DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING


"The Teen Literacy Center (TLC) program is designed to target the academic, social and emotional needs of English Language Learners (ELLs), ages 13-21 with interrupted or limited formal schooling. The goal is to assist ELLs in acquiring a 3-4th grade level in reading and math before transitioning them to traditional high school or work setting. The TLC’s pillars of success are small classes, balanced literacy instruction, assistive technology, targeted content area literacy instruction in math, social studies, and science, a daily take-home book program, and highly trained English as a Second Language instructors. To qualify for the TLC program, a student must meet the following criteria: The student demonstrates limited English proficiency; reads/writes below a 2nd grade level in his/her native language, and has experienced limited or interrupted formal schooling in his/her native country.
