DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING

The Omaha Public Schools ESL Teen Literacy Center (TLC) is an English learner newcomer program designed to target the academic, social, and emotional needs of English Learners, ages 14-21 with limited or interrupted formal education (LIFE). This program has specially designed curriculum designed to fill in gaps of knowledge related to unique language, literacy, academic, socio-emotional, and cultural needs. The TLC courses provide literacy instruction aligned to content areas and math foundational skills. Students typically spend 2-3 semesters in the TLC program. Students attend the first block of each day at the high school and the remainder of the day at the TLC. After students progress through the TLC courses, they transition to a full day at the high school. Each TLC referral is considered during initial enrollment or transition to high school for students with LIFE background. The TLC administrator coordinates the transition plan with the high school.
