DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING

Douglas County West Elementary School consists of highly qualified staff serving a growing population of students K-4. In addition, DC West maintains a strong preschool program. DC West is in their third year of being one of ten sights within the Learning Community to partner with the Buffett Early Childhood Institute. The goal of this partnership is to improve learning for birth through grade four. Researched based programs enhancing student learning include: Read Well, Mastering Math Facts, Four Square Writing, Six Trait Writing, Guided reading and Curriculum Mapping. DC West Elementary also engages in intervention strategies to meet individual student needs. DC West Elementary has been the recipient of Nebraska’s National Title I Distinguished School Award in 2009-2010 and in 2014-2015. In 2015-2016, DC West Elementary was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.
