Douglas County West Elementary School consists of highly qualified staff serving a growing population of students PreK-5. DC West has a strong preschool program. This is our fourth year of partnering with the Buffett Early Childhood Institute. The goal of this partnership is to improve learning for birth through grade five. Researched based programs enhancing student learning include: Read Well, Mastering Math Facts, Four Square & Six Trait Writing, Guided Reading and Curriculum Mapping. DC West engages in strategies to meet individual student needs and has been the recipient of Nebraska’s National Title I Distinguished School Award in 2009-2010 & in 2014-2015. In 2015-2016, DC West was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School. In 2017-2018, DC West Elementary was awarded the opportunity to be a Disney Musical in Schools school by Omaha Performing Arts. The Arts are a strength at DC West. Also in 2018-19, DC West will be constructing a new elementary school to increase our capacity.
