DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING


The Douglas County West High School is located in the town of Valley, Nebraska but is not on the larger school campus. It is an extension of the high school that is available for at-risk students who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to be successful in the traditional high school setting. A majority of instruction is online and the graduation requirements are the same as at the traditional high school. The goals of the DC West Alternative High School are listed below. 1) Improve the academic engagement and achievement of at-risk students. 2) Emphasize student strengths to meet their academic and social needs. 3) Provide progressive academic and behavioral expectations. a. Each student will have an individualized schedule. 4) Provide for social and emotional growth. 5) Promote perseverance, productivity, and work ethic. 6) Explore future educational, career, and technical interests. 7) Ensure community and family involvement.
