DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING


Burwell Elementary school is part of a Class III district. Approximately 170 students attend Burwell Elementary each school year. In 2013, Burwell Elementary was chosen as a "Blue Ribbon School" by the Department of Education. Burwell elementary offers an outstanding accelerated reader program. The staff has been trained in the use of Reading Renaissance with several classes receiving national reading recognition. The Character Counts program coupled with Longhorn Pride have been infused school wide, with an emphasis on respect, responsibility, compassion, trustworthiness and perseverance. Spanish is taught at all grade levels as part of our "Gifted Education Program." Computer classes are taught to support the regular classroom. The teaching staff has been trained in "Future Kids". In addition to the regular classroom instruction, vocal and instrumental music, art classes, as well as daily p.e. classes are offered.
