DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING

R. J. Barr Middle School enrolls approximately 700 students in grades 6-8. The diverse student body is served by 54 certified staff members. The original building was built in 1967. The most recent expansion and renovation to the building were completed in 2017, adding 37,000 square feet of space. Barr Middle School is part of the GEAR UP PROMISE!, a federal grant program designed to increase the number of low-income students prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. At GIPS we empower educators to be instructional leaders, personalize learning pathways for each student, design decisions using data, and partner with our community. Our students are prepared to make positive contributions to society and thrive in an ever-changing world.
