DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Howard Elementary School is located at 502 West 9th Street. The current building was opened in 1954 and was connected with Walnut Junior High. In 1955, Walnut Junior High moved to a new facility, and the building became a K-6 elementary school. The first edition was added in 1958, and consisted of six classrooms, a special education room, and a library. In 1980 and 1981, the east wing was remodeled, and four classrooms were added. In 1993, a new gym was added, and the office and lunchroom were remodeled. A new annex of five additional classrooms was constructed in 2012. Howard Elementary School provides three to four sections of each grade level. Howard Elementary follows a Continuous School Calendar schedule, starting in July and providing intersession during the months of September, December and March. Howard is a school-wide Title One school.
