DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING

While the new Jefferson Elementary building is under construction, the current location of Jefferson is in the former Starr Elementary School building which is at 315 Wyandotte Street in Grand Island. Although the location is different, the positive spirit of students and staff stays the same, as well as the educational opportunities and love for learning. Each of the 265 students has unique and diverse backgrounds and talents, as do the nearly 50 staff members who work together to help students grow. During the 2017-2019 school years, Jefferson is a Learning Sciences Institute Demonstration School for Rigor. The instructional vision is to have "Students collaborating to complete complex, standards-based tasks through problem-solving and ownership of their learning." Jefferson Elementary pursues this vision with the mission to develop respectful, responsible, confident learners who learn it, know it, and live it.
