DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
1-R school is a K-8 grade school which is part of the Northwest Public Schools. The school is located at 3301 West One-R Road approximately 4 miles north of Grand Island. 1-R stands for the first rural school in Hall County. The school was built in 1973 as result of the unification of 7 small country schools located Northwest of Grand Island. Two additions have been made to the original building a music and science room in the 1990’s. The second addition was a Library in 2005. 1-R became part of the Northwest system with the passage of LB126. Enrollment has grown slightly over the years and has remained consistently around 173 students. Currently our student body is a 60/40 split 60% option students from Grand Island and 40% in district students. Class sizes average 18-20 with the largest being 24 students. Our current staff consists of 13 certified staff, 1 shared counselor and nurse, 3 regular education aides, 2 shared specialists, 1 full time secretary, and 1 full time custodian.
