DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
1-R school is a K-8 grade school that is part of the Northwest Public Schools located at 3301 West One-R Road approximately 4 miles north of Grand Island. 1-R stands for the first rural school in Hall County. The school was built in 1973 as a result of the unification of seven small country schools located Northwest of Grand Island. 1-R became part of the Northwest system with the passage of LB126. Enrollment has grown slightly over the years and has remained consistent with approximately 190 students. Currently, our student body is 52% option enrollment from in and around the city of Grand Island. Class size averages around 20-25 students per grade. The staff consists of 19 certified staff with two who are shared with St. Libory school and three trimester teachers who teach in all three K-8 buildings, one shared counselor and nurse, four para-educators, a full-time secretary, and a full-time custodian.
