DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Named for the area near Capitol Beach Lake, Lakeview was a one-teacher school on West P Street until 1923 when the present building was constructed at 300 Capitol Beach Blvd. Additions were added in 1963, 1974 and 2010. Lakeview is a School-wide Title I building serving approximately 400 kindergarten through 5th grade students, and 30 Early Childhood students, from 5 different neighborhood areas. Lakeview’s mission statement reads: “Team Lakeview believes that education is the foundation of life’s successes. Through purposeful instruction, guidance and encouragement our students will excel and continuously grow.” Lakeview’s Community Learning Center offers a broad range of after-school learning opportunities with support from the Parent Teacher Organization/School Neighborhood Action Committee. These organizations sponsor activities that strengthen the partnership between the community, school and families.
