DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Rousseau Elementary was named after C. Maude Rousseau, teacher & principal in Lincoln Public Schools. Rousseau opened on November 1964, the first LPS elementary building to be air-conditioned. Additions were made in 1968, 1970, and 1997. A $4.9 million indoor air quality and renovation project was completed in January 2011. Rousseau Elementary School has a student population of 595 students which includes two preschool classes and an ELL program. Our specialist classes include art/computer science, PE, media, and music. Rousseau has strong parent/community involvement and an active PTO. Our focus on high expectations for academic achievement and behavior contributes to our students’ success. Reggie (a golden retriever) is our school’s Edu-pup. Our Mission is to LEARN at high levels, THINK interdependently, LEAD with character. Rousseau Elementary School was chosen as a 2018 Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, one of only four in Nebraska and 349 in the country.
