DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Kloefkorn Elementary School opened in August 2012. We are proud to be named after distinguished poet, William Kloefkorn. Kloefkorn taught writing and literature for 40 years at Nebraska Wesleyan University until he retired in 2002. He published more than 30 collections of poetry, 2 collections of short fiction, 4 memoirs and an assortment of children’s stories. In the early 1970s he initiated Nebraska’s poets-in-the-schools program, talking and writing with young students throughout the state. “Not many things,” he said, “are more important or more satisfying than are classrooms filled with wide-eyed, vibrant students who are eager to learn and to tell stories by way of the written word.” The Unicameral named him the Nebraska State Poet in 1982. Our vision for Kloefkorn School is a safe, engaging and welcoming learning environment where EXCELLENCE in teaching and learning thrives. Our mission is to HONOR the past, ACHIEVE excellence in the present and INSPIRE leaders for the future.
