DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Syracuse High School serves 216 students in grades 9-12. In response to the district's school improvement goals, the high school staff has worked hard to address student achievement through enhanced instruction (all staff has received extensive staff development in the area of reading strategies, text structures, content area reading and vocabulary), increased relevancy in the curriculum and increased student engagement, as well as a daily focus on reading through Boy's Town and Compass Odyssey remedial reading and daily silent sustained reading. The high school is teaching and assessing content area essential vocabulary and the use of text structures in supporting content reading. The staff has made great strides in recognizing each teacher's importance in the reinforcement of reading skills.
