DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Mitchell is a Class III school organized as PK-6 elementary and 7-12 secondary. Mitchell Secondary School houses grades 7-12. After reviewing assessment results in 2010, a reading specialist was hired to teach reading and remediate reading instruction in grades 7-8. All grades 7-12 are allowed access to a daily study hall as well as summer school opportunities. Mitchell Public Schools uses the NWEA/MAPS test as a standardized test. All students in grades 7-11 take the NWEA tests. The NWEA assesses students in the areas of reading, math, language usage, and science. Students in grades 4, 8, & 11 take the State-Wide Writing Assessment. Our school also participated in online administration of the NeSA-R, NeSA-M, and NeSA-S. Mitchell began online testing for all NeSA areas during the 2012-13 school year. Mitchell Secondary School also utilizes AIMSweb to progress monitor both reading and math in grades 7-8.
