DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Longfellow Elementary serves over 400 students in grades K-5. We are organized in grade level teams to provide an environment where faculty members collaborate to effectively meet the needs of individual students. The Professional Learning Community model is implemented at the building and the district level. A balanced literacy/guided reading approach is implemented in Reading Instruction. Students are provided opportunities to utilize metacognitive thinking strategies in all areas of the curriculum. Students are provided additional instruction in the areas of vocal and instrumental music, physical education, art, library media and computers. Longfellow is designated as a Title I Schoolwide School. The Longfellow staff believes in and provides an inclusive environment where students learn that there is value in learning in different ways. Parents are actively involved in the educational activities at Longfellow which is very beneficial to our students and staff.
